IPENZ Branches

There are 16 IPENZ Branches in New Zealand and one in the United Kingdom. All IPENZ Members resident within a Branch area (determined by the IPENZ Board) automatically become part of the local Branch. The Branches welcome and support Members, and endeavour to encourage their participation in Branch activities.

Services provided by Branches
Branches exist to provide services to Members that are best delivered locally. Most Branches provide a programme of activities throughout the year and send a monthly newsletter to all Branch Members keeping them informed about events and other news.

The events programme includes meetings with presentations on topical and technical issues, visits to sites of engineering interest, and social opportunities for engineers to meet and network. Branches also offer career development and mentoring support where possible.

Promoting the profession locally
Branches facilitate opportunities for engineers to provide engineering input into local and national issues as they arise. They support local communities through involvement with schools, science fairs, career events and by assisting with engineering-related projects.

How Branches are managed
Each Branch holds an Annual General Meeting and elects a committee to manage its affairs. Funding for activities is allocated annually by the IPENZ Governing Board, based on Member numbers. A Branch manual describes the policies, procedures and support services available to assist committees with their management tasks.

IPENZ National Office provides Branches with administration assistance through the services of a Branch Facilitator.

Tim Pike (MIPENZ) is a Member of the Hawke's Bay Branch. He talks about the lessons he has learned being on the committee.

Derek Bon (MIPENZ) is a member of the Northland Brach committee. He talks about the benefits of getting involved.

Bruce Conaghan (TIPENZ) talks about getting involved with regional branches.
