Engenerate continued to mix technical talks from experienced engineers with soft skills like leadership and communication. There were also plenty of chances to network with other engineers in an informal setting.

Developing Leadership Skills in the Workplace — Engenerate Canterbury

Derek Crombie is the South Island Manager for GHD Ltd, one of Australasia’s largest consulting engineering practices. Derek gave an informative and interactive presentation on leadership skills for young engineers.

Communication Styles and How to Use Them Effectively — Engenerate Waikato

Engenerate Waikato hosted an evening focused on communication. Guest speaker, Andrew Johnson, Construction Manager for the Waikato Expressway project, spoke about how effective communication helps him in his role. The evening was a great success with attendees taking away insightful and practical knowledge to apply to their working environment.

End of Year Dinner — Engenerate Wellington

Wellington Engenerate celebrated the end of the year with a dinner function. Around 50 people attended from 20 different engineering establishments throughout the Wellington region. The evening provided excellent networking opportunities. It was fantastic to see a more diverse crowd, with engineers from a range of disciplines, employees of contractors and clients, as well as a higher-than-usual proportion of female engineers.

Engenerate Wellington will be looking for a bigger venue next year as the committee had to turn people away.
