Energy Management Association of New Zealand (EMANZ)

The inaugural general meeting of this group was held in August 1993. The formation of a new energy interest group was initiated by Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority Chief Executive, Martin Gummer, in association with IPENZ, in response to the increasingly urgent need for energy efficiency and conservation and some form of monitoring of the industry. The Association brings together a diverse range of professional and non-professional interests, from engineers and tradespeople covering the whole spectrum of energy-related work to environmentalists and sociologists.

The association's stated aims are:

to promote the highest standards of energy management skills and competence
to foster and facilitate the integration of sound energy management practices into all sectors of the New Zealand economy
to provide a forum for the discussion of energy management issues, skills and techniques
to develop practical energy management policy proposals and represent these where appropriate.

The association has developed a code of practice for its members and has been involved in setting up education programes at CIT and Otago University.
