new products in the market

Geo-Systems Ltd has become the sole New Zealand distributor of the Spectra-Physics Laserplane range of laser surveying systems. In the North Island the company replaces Laser Equipment Ltd and Laser Equipment customers are invited to call 0800 436 797 to register their serial numbers for warranty and servicing.

ABB Flexible Automation and Ingersoll-Rand have formed a new joint venture to manufacture and market waterjet cutting systems, ABB I-R Waterjet Systems LLC, based in Michigan. The transaction affects only the systems side of the waterjet cutting business, not the Baxter Springs pressure intensifier and waterjet component markets or the McCartney petrochemical industry products.

Ingersoll-Dresser Pumps has extended the range of its CPX family of chemical process pumps with the launch of its CPXS magnetic drive, seal-less models. The pumps remove the risk of leakage by replacing the mechanical seal with a static containment shell. A secondary containment shell is a further option. The twenty pumps in the range cover capacities up to 300 m3/h and heads up to 100 metres. The pumps do not handle high temperatures, liquids containing magnetic particles, liquids with a tendency to polymerise, or those with a high concentration of solids. Materials include ductile iron, various types of stainless steel and alloys including alloy C-276.

Chesterton International has released the new Singleflow flush/quench fluid regulator. The regulator retains ± 10 percent accuracy throughout their flow range. The regulator bodies are machined from durable nylon to resist chemicals, heat and shock while the front faces are made of Grilamid, an advanced polymer that stays perfectly clear for easy-to-see, reliable readings. The regulator maintains low constant flush to a single mechanical seal, keeping faces cool and clean.

Vision Enhancement Ltd of Lower Hutt is selling a Polaroid two layer circular polarising filter for computer screens. The filters trap 99 percent of reflected light and 98 percent of the electric field radiation. Polaroid claims the technology is 14 times more effective for enhancing contrast and 12 times more effective for controlling VDU glare than cheaper perspex, glass or mesh filters.

Fantech Pty Ltd has developed a roof mounted ventilator fan which requires no special mounting. Made with bases to match popular steel roofing profiles, all that is required for fitting is for a hole to be cut in the roof, the fan to be slid into position and attached with sealed tek-screws. A final seal with silicon weatherproofs the fan. The fan is capable of handling in excess of 500 l/s and over 200 Pa.

Geo-Systems is selling a PC tool called "Scale-Link" which allows users to enter distance data from scale drawings directly into a PC program. Users simply run a pointer over the drawing to gather in the distance which is then scaled up for the PC program. Clients say the tool cuts estimation times by up to 75 percent.

Fluid Engineering Ltd is offering high quality Japanese oil cleaners from Triple R with elements which cost half that of other filters on the market. Triple R Co Ltd sells the oil filters that are fitted as standard to all Japan Post trucks and on Nissan and Mitsubishi manufacturing plants. Filters are made for specific tasks: M is standard; X is for long life, WG for water-glycol, WE for removing water from oil, TR for transport, SE for hydraulic machinery, BU for hydraulic oil with an in-line bypass system and the OSCA-M series portable units for purifying up to 10,000 litres.

Unilink Automation has released the Checker 1 industrial vision inspection system. The system is set up via a Windows interface with a step-by-step guide which can be used even by those with no experience of vision systems. Up to 16 different product inspection profiles can be stored on the device. The product was nominated for the Best Instrumentation Product category of the 1996 United Kingdom Manufacturing Achievement Awards.

Wayne D Fisk is selling a waste compactor to reduce waste volume by 75 percent, reducing storage and transport costs. The "Roll-packer" is a hydraulic arm fitted with a 750 kg or 1.1 tonne roller attached to any waste bin up to seven metres long. The machine is claimed to be quiet and dust free in operation and increases the overall length required for a bin by just one metre.

Maud Kirk Machinery is now selling the ETP-Impress hydromechanical shrink joint from ETP Transmission AB of Sweden. Traditional mechanical shrink discs require careful tightening of large screws to high torque values. If the screws are not tightened uniformly, uneven stresses and broken screws can result. The ETP-Impress uses small locking screws and uniform hydraulic pressure to achieve a better result. Customers have reported the joint change operation has been slashed from hours to minutes. The range covers bore sizes from Æ70 to Æ210 and torque to 200,000 Nm.

SMC Pneumatics has released a new range of MSUB vane-type rotary tables. The tables are offered in four model sizes in torque capacities of 1,3,7 and 20 Nm. Double vane models in each torque size provide a rotation angle of 90° adjustable by ±5°. Single vane models are available with rotational angles of either 90° or 180° adjustable by ±10°. Rotation time ranges from 0.07 to 0.3 sec/90°. Auto switches may also be fitted to confirm the correct rotation has been achieved. MSUB rotary tables come in port sizes of M3x0.5 or M5x0.8 depending on the model with compressed air ranges of 0.2-0.7 Mpa, 0.15-0.7 Mpa or 0.15-1.0 Mpa. The tables can accommodate loads of up to 6 kgf and vertical thrust loads of 8 kgf.

Fixturlaser AB has launched a laser based shaft alignment system for measurement and alignment of coupled rotating machines and machine trains. The system incorporates pre-alignment functions such as measurement of base flatness, thermal growth compensation, shaft straightness and soft foot conditions. Measurement results can be stored for uploading to PC or printed out directly to a printer. Battery life is 24 hours.

Lordco New Zealand is now offering US made Nelson Heat Tracing Systems heat trace cable. Limitrace self-regulating cable is ideal for freeze protection or process temperature maintenance of pipes, valves or tubing. It automatically alters its heat output in response to temperature changes - increasing as the pipe cools and decreasing as the temperature rises. Nelcon cable is a constant wattage cable is a low install-cost alternative for applications that require a constant heat output level. Nelex is designed for long runs on large diameter pipe with exposures up to 593° C.

Dotmar PBE of Victoria, Australia has expanded its range of Polypenco Nylatron. Comprising one extruded and three cast nylon types, Polypenco Nylatron is robust, non-corrosive, lightweight and long lasting. Nylatron MC901 is recommended for large gears, racks and pinions and can successfully replace phosphor bronze and cast iron. Two Polypenco types have been modified with molybdenum disulphide. Nylatron GS is for dynamic bearing and wear applications while Nylatron GSM also boasts extra wear resistance while being able to tolerate temperatures up to 100° C. All Nylatrons are available in rods, sheets and strips.

SMC Pneumatics has released its VQZ Series of three and five port solenoid valves for machinery control. All units offer a choice of body ported, base mounted or manifold mounted construction. Body ported units provide Cv flow factors from 0.2 to 0.9 and base/manifold mounted units from 0.35 to 1.2. The valves operate at supply pressures ranging from 0.1 to 0.7 MPa, with models capable of handling 0.8 MPa also available. The solenoids operate on voltages of 12 or 24 volts DC or 100,110,200 or 220 volts AC ± 10 percent. The valves offer response times of 15 ms or less and operational lives of 200 million cycles.
