Engineering Practice Board (EPB)

The EPB was established in 2002.  It was disestablished in 2011 and its functions are now carried out by the Engineering Practice Advisory Committee.

Competency Assessment Board (CAB)

The Competency Assessment Board ensures that minimum standards of professional competence are consistently applied to candidates seeking recognition through IPENZ competence based membership classes and registers. CAB Terms of Reference (pdf)

Standards and Accreditation Board (SAB)

The Standards and Accreditation Board is responsible for setting and maintaining minimum standards for entry to the profession (applied through qualification accreditation and recognition) and professional competence (applied through assessment of individuals for competence based membership and registration).  These standards are central to the operation of a self regulating profession.

Engineering Heritage Board (EHB)

The prime purpose of the Engineering Heritage Board is to govern engineering heritage activities within the Institution to ensure that:

  • the role and contributions that the engineering profession has played in the development of New Zealand is properly documented, promoted and recognised
  • the work and careers of significant engineers are recorded and promoted
  • the history of the Institution itself is well documented and celebrated.

Women in Engineering Oversight Body

The Women in Engineering Oversight Body is overseeing progress on the Women in Engineering action plan. A summary of this action plan is set out in the document Retention and Renewal of Women in Engineering. IPENZ considers increasing the involvement of women in the engineering profession important as the profession wants attract the best and brightest and to be representative and sustainable.
